MISS INDEPENDENCE?

Independence is a word that gets thrown around a lot without much thought about its meaning or weight. If you think about it, independence is praised and valued above most things in society. For some reason, we feel we are less deserving of something if we had help achieving it. Because of this subconscious belief, I thought it was something I would always chase and never have for myself. After all, how can I be independent if I need help for most things? How can I be seen as productive And valuable if someone is always there? How will I be able to be a wife and a mother one day? these are thoughts that continue to plague me in the middle of the night when I can't sleep, or when I'm frustrated after a long day. I have to remember that independence is less clear-cut than we are led to believe. I’m independent because I make my own decisions, run my life, hire my support staff, and ensure people around me are taken care of. Just because I have help with dressing and cooking doesn't make me less independent. I still run my own ship.
